Mangochi Diocese of the Catholic Church has launched a five-year strategic plan covering the period 2017 to 2022 whose central focus is to have a family of God filled with the Holy Spirit living in harmony, peace and solidarity.

Launched on Wednesday, the strategic plan has three main goals of ensuring that the diocese is a sustainable church, ensuring that Catholic Christians have deep and practising faith and empowering the communities of the diocese through promotion of human rights, education, good health and sustainable development.

Stima: It will have a monitoring and implementation team

Speaking during the launch at Mangochi Cathedral, Bishop of Mangochi Diocese, the Right Reverend Montfort Stima encouraged ownership of the plan by the flock, saying it was not for the priests alone.

Stima said the strategic plan was emanating from the African Synod which requires that all members of the church work together in addressing critical elements affecting the growth of the church.

He said: “One social scientist observed that most people develop good plans which just accumulate dust on the shelves. This should not be the case with the diocese’s plan which will have a monitoring and evaluation team to expedite its implementation.”

The bishop asked parish priests to disseminate the strategy to their parishioners for the benefit of all members of the Catholic Church in particular.

In his remarks, Mangochi Diocese Vicar General Father Andrew Nkhata challenged Catholics in the diocese that it was the responsibility of everyone to put the plan into reality. He thanked the diocese’s leadership for championing the development of the plan. n
