Children from Mangochi Diocese recently celebrated the Holy Childhood Mass to mark the end of the year.

Bishop Montfort Stima of the diocese graced the occasion where he delivered mass and watched displays of traditional dances by children aged between five to 15

He urged the youngsters to be prayerful, honest and love other people.

“The only way to show our love for Jesus is to love others. Respect for parents ensures God’s abundant blessings to become productive citizens,” he said.

Stima observed that such gatherings are crucial for the development of the church and the nation.

“The Church needs more priests and nuns. We need productive leaders; hence, the need to start building children’s religious foundations, “said Bishop Stima.

National director for Pontifical Mission Society (PMS) of the Episcopal Conference of Malawi (ECM) Father Vincent Mwakhwawa said their original missionary character includes a commitment to denouncing and condemning causes of various forms of violence suffered by children throughout the world.

Speaking on behalf of the children, Gertrude Bengo commended the Catholic Church’s leadership for recognising and acknowledging them.

PMS director for Mangochi Diocese, Father Tito Bayani, said over 700 children from 19 parishes attended the celebration.
