Mangochi residents speak on Mlambe one-stop centre

A group of citizens from Mangochi District have expressed mixed feelings about the newly opened Mlambe One Stop Service Centre constructed in the district under the Public Sector Reforms Programme.

The structure accommodates the Malawi Posts Corporation (MPC), Malawi Revenue Authority (MRA), the Directorate of Road Traffic and Safety Services (DRTSS) Department of Immigration and the Registrar General.

Speaking in random interviews one of the residents Fahad Mdala hailed government for the structure, saying it will save time and money spent on accessing the services elsewhere.

“We commend government for bringing the services closer to our doorsteps. This is really good for the people of Mangochi because all along we have been travelling to Blantyre, Zomba and Lilongwe for passports and licences,” he said.

Mdala, however, felt government rushed to open the centre, saying many services are not yet available.

He cited the processing of Certificate of Fitness (CoF) for vehicles, which requires the presence of motor examiners, express passports, which are processed within a day, among other urgent documents, as examples of essential services many residents would have loved government to prioritize.

However, another resident Chimwemwe Mkonde said the centre, apart from helping residents to save time and money, will also help to reduce road accidents.

President Peter Mutharika officially opened Mlambe Centre on Thursday last week with a promise to do similar developments in Blantyre and Mzimba before rolling them out to other districts.
