Manong’a launches solo music project

Musician Gloria Manong’a has launched an ambitious solo musical project aimed at bringing together choir groups to nurture their talents.

The Gloria Manong’a Tiyimbe Project also seeks to create a platform for the choirs drawn from different denominations to network.

Promoting choral groups: Manong’a

“There are hundreds of choirs from different churches with individual as well as collective untapped talent. The idea is to provide a stage under one roof to promote them,” explained Manong’a of the Chilengedwe Changa fame.

Manong’a observed that for sometime, choir groups have been sidelined in most undertakings despite their highly inspiring concerts.

She said the idea to launch the music project was hatched following her two successful shows in Balaka and Blantyre where demand was high for choral groups from patrons.

Manong’a said during the performances, various professionals will also be invited to share health tips, educational highlights, self-development, financial management and grooming and etiquette, among other topics.

“I believe healthy, knowledgeable, self-reliant and well-behaving choir members are crucial to the country’s development, hence the professional talks,” she said.

The artist, who is also secretary for the Musicians Union of Malawi (MUM) Southern Region chapter, has been working with choir groups since her childhood.

Meanwhile, ahead of the project launch, the 35-year-old Manong’a has organised a show this Sunday at Monarchy Square in Blantyre.

She has five albums to her credit but came to the limelight in 2012 following her master piece Chilengdwe Changa. Her last album Kunja Kwacha, whose hit song is Amuna anga Mundikonde, was released last year.

She also happens to be one of the 34 artists that contributed to Christian Artists Networking Association (Cana) CD which is expected out later this year. n
