Malawi Under-20 national netball coach Mary Waya has signed a year’s contract with Tanzanian side Filbert Bayi.

Tanzanian media has reported that the deal will see Waya at the club up to May 2013.

Waya could not be reached for comment.

Filbert Bayi, one of the team’s directors, told Guardian newspaper of Tanzania that the club was impressed with Waya’s services in the few months she was at the club.

“Under the contract, Waya is expected to train the students team and also to organise netball seminars at all secondary schools in Dar es Salaam and at other development netball teams.

“The contract has a clause of renewing it next year, but I cannot say much as currently we are waiting for some documents from the Ministry of Labour for work permit processes,” said Bayi.

But he said his team is happy that they have acquired the services of Waya, whom he described as a complete and seasoned development coach.

“Within the short period the Malawi coach has been at the school, the team has produced six players selected in the list of 30 provisional national netball team (Taifa Queens) players’ currently undergoing training at Kibaha.

“She has hosted netball seminars at various secondary schools in Dar es Salaam and also assisted the national netball team at their camp as a consultant,” he said.

Taifa Queens are preparing for the forthcoming international netball championship to be staged at the National Stadium in Dar es Salaam next month.

Bayi named the players who were developed by Waya and currently training with the national team as Jack Sickozi, Lilian Sylidion, Irene Elias, Restituta Boniface, Lydia Samwel and Joyce Edward.

“We are happy to announce that we have acquired the services of one of the best development coaches in Africa. We believe her presence will help to improve netball development in the country,” he said.
