Wilson ‘Shasha’ Masamba on Sunday knocked out South Africa-based boxer Sando Jackson in the third round without breaking sweat.

The bout, staged at M1 Centre Point in Lilongwe, failed to live to expectations as Jackson failed to live to his pre-bout bragging.

In a post-bout interview, Masamba said he was happy to have taught his opponent a lesson

Was too good for Jackson: Masamba

“He was talking too much. I am glad to have shut him up. I believe he won’t have the courage to challenge me again. He is not a good boxer,” said Masamba.

A humbled Jackson praised Masamba as a good boxer, saying:  “The fight did not go as planned. I accept defeat,” he said.

Instead, it was the main supporting bout between Chikondi Makawa and new kid on the block Dickson Saidi that had the fans on their feet.

The experienced Makawa endured a humiliating evening after being outclassed by Saidi who has just turned professional..

From round one to six, Makawa endured a barrage of punches as he failed to put up his guard, let alone evade precise jabs and hooks from uncompromising Saidi.

By round three, Makawa looked out of sorts after absorbing too many punches.

In round four, Makawa nearly surrendered after being hit by a left hook. He was so dazed that he lost focus and had it not been for the intervention of the referee Mbachachi Nyirenda,  it could have been the end for him as Saidi was zeroing in for the kill.

He managed to beat the count and held on until the scheduled sixth round. The judges unanimously gave the fight to Saidi who belongs to No Pain No Gain boxing stable.

Saidi attributed his victory to good preparations, saying: “I have watched Makawa before and knew his weaknesses. I had to take the fight to him.”

On his part, Makawa admitted playing second fiddle.

Malawi Professional Boxing Control Board (MPBCB) president Lonzoe Zimba, who watched the fight, heaped praise on Saidi, saying he has a great future.

“He just needs to work on his footing and endurance,” he said. n
