The exercise which took close to an hour created long queues along the busy public road that links two of the country’s major shopping hubs of Blantyre central business district (CBD) and Limbe.

When contacted Southern Region Police spokesperson Ramsy Mushani said he did not have the details of the mission as he was out of Blantyre.

But a police source confided in The Nation that the law enforcers were hunting for a police firearm K2C type that was stolen on Tuesday night from one of the Police Mobile Service’s officers based at B Company at Kanjedza, Blantyre. The officer had been identified as Constable Kamoto of B Company.

“The officer was on a private job guarding the residence of one of the commercial banks boss. After sometime, he left the site under the disguise of taking his supper and went to Kamba Bottle Stores where he got drunk and fell asleep. Upon gaining his consciousness he realised the rifle plus his mobile phone were all gone,” explained the officer. n
