Mauritius glows under MultiChoice spotlight

Glamour, glitz and excitement took centre stage on Tuesday night when continental entertainment powerhouse MultiChoice Africa kicked off its second content showcase extravaganza dubbed Night of a Thousand Stars at the Outrigger Beach Resort in Mauritius.

The guests walked down the African media Walk of Fame onto a red-carpet that opened up to a sensational night of dazzling entertainment.

The mood was thrilled with dance performances from a South African group of dancers who first took the stage with amazing dance skills while guests enjoyed their dinner.

Television personality IK, who was host of the event alongside Eku Edewor, brought his popular show, Hilites with IK, to the stage with a delightful interview with Nigerian artist Banky W.

Also in attendance were Nollywood stars who included Genevieve Nnaji, Rita Dominic, Desmond Elliot and Ramsey Noah, who were given the full movie-star treatment.

In his welcome remarks, MultiChoice Africa chief executive officer Tim Jacobs promised that the video entertainment service provider will do all it can to make only the best content available to its subscribers.

“We believe television is an extremely powerful tool that can educate, entertain and inform. The evolution of this medium has become fast and furious and as a business we are constantly evolving to stay ahead,” he said.

Jacobs further lauded the success of MultiChoice’s GOtv Digital Terrestrial Television (DTT) offering, which currently operates in eight countries, bringing low-cost digital television to homes and supporting governments in freeing up vital broadcast spectrum by switching from analogue to digital signal.

Musicians Flavour and Stonebwoy kept the guests on their feet with their popular hits and dance moves and, cementing it all, was The Mavins who performed the famous hit Dorobucci.

The MultiChoice Africa content showcase is a five-day content extravaganza, which sees a host of DStv’s biggest channels, including Sony, SuperSport, Zee TV, A+E, Disney, MTV Base, BET, Comedy Central, BBC and M-Net previewing their latest content, soon to be seen across the video entertainment services provider’s platforms.
