Mbewe wins Mapa presidential seat

After serving as acting president for two years, Chikondi Mbewe on Thursday secured the top seat of Malawi Pool Association (Mapa).

Mbewe, who succeeded Francis Zhuwao after his resignation will lead Mapa for four years.
Mbewe beat Central Region Pool League (CRPL) chairperson Franco Banda with 16 votes against six at elections held at Civo Club House in Lilongwe.
This is the second defeat for Banda having also lost to Zhuwawo four years ago.
Mbewe will be deputised by Matthews Munthali who won as vice-president.
Munthali beat Hastings Mpesi with 12 votes against 10.
Saulos Thindwa retained his general secretary position after outsmarting Southern Region Pool League (SRPL) chairperson Dave Malunga by 13-6 votes.
Joseph Kachali got four votes for the same post.
Bob Jafali failed to retain his vice-general secretary position after he slumped to Francis Jowakimu.
Jafali got eight votes while Jowakimu got 12 votes.
Yesani Odala and Vincent Banda failed to retain their position of treasurer general and tournament director respectively.
Odala got only two votes while Innocent Chidakwa received 14 votes to win as treasurer general.
Brutus Ndhlovu of Umqombothi Pool Club got seven votes for the same position.
Thandi Kaunda became the only lady in the executive committee.
She was elected as a women’s representative after beating Susan Mphande with 16 votes against four. n
