Justice Jane Ansah has threatened to instantly sack Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) workers who show political favouritism and rudely handle stakeholders, including voters.

The MEC chairperson warned against political bias and misconducts when she opened a training for master trainers yesterday in Lilongwe.

The commission expects the trainees to train new workers on how to conduct themselves professionally throughout the countdown to 2019 Tripartite Elections.

Ansah said : “I will repeat; we do not have any side on the political continuum. Therefore, as you become master trainers, your name will be associated with the commission and its activities. You are supposed to be impartial and not show any political sides.”

She said MEC will subject its staff to constant and intense monitoring.

“If you are found engaging in malpractices, the commission will not hesitate to sever ties with you,” she warned.

Previously, the commission was using head teachers as the master trainers.

Ansah said the departure comes in response to some challenges that emerged in the old system, including lack of consistency in their training content.

Among the dignitaries was United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) deputy country representative Claire Medina. n
