Facing threats? Banda
Facing threats? Banda

Minister of Information and Civic Education Brown Mpinganjira claimed in Lilongwe yesterday that President Joyce Banda and her family are receiving death threats from unknown people following the intensive investigations into the looting at Capital Hill.

Mpinganjira, who was speaking at a press conference held in conjunction with the Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs Fahad Assani, said the President is receiving death threats from foreign agencies and some from within Malawi.

He said: “As of now, I cannot say much as regards the death threats, because doing so will hinder investigations as well as will give room to the people involved in this to have ideas on how to hide and escape.

“Some well-wishers are giving information about the plot that some people are planning to have the President killed over her bold decision to arrest the culprits who are involved in public funds looting.”

The two ministers assured the nation that government is working hard to have all the culprits of the money saga at Capital Hill imprisoned.

Added Mpinganjira: “This information dates back to 2005 when the Integrated Financial Management Information System [Ifmis] was first introduced in the country and all involved will face the law.”

  1. This is not only being stupid but also unprofessional and incompetent for the whole information minister to come in the open that the president is receiving death threats. So tell us Mr Brown Mpinganjira, minister of information, why are you giving those murderers world-wide publicity. In whose best interests is this to tell the world about those lunatics’ threats against the state president.
As information minister you should be aware that as much as we all need updates on current affairs, but in this case there a thin line between giving the general public information and giving options to those people who know that the arm of the law is about to catch up with them.
