“We are yet to identify the main sponsor, but the odds are good. Apart from the benefits that they would enjoy as a platinum sponsor, our main partner will also work with the 2016/2017 queen who would be an ambassador for the company or organisation,” said Miss Malawi project spokesperson Teresa Ndanga.

“Since we re-launched the beauty pageant in May this year, the organisers NPL and ZBS have been financing most of the activities. We are currently seeking partnerships with companies and organisations that are committed to the cause of empowering Malawi’s young women and helping the country fight overpopulation.”

She said it was a fact that overpopulation is the root cause of a myriad of problems the country is facing; hence, the need to use the Miss Malawi crown to help in the fight against it.

Ndanga, who is also ZBS head of news and current affairs, added that this is the reason companies and organisations that share the dream of containing the country’s population growth should join hands with the organisers.

She said: “Miss Malawi is a national event through which our identity, culture, talents and skills are brought to the fore. Through the pageant, Malawi sells its values and beauty on the world stage.

“Therefore, it is important to remember that by joining hands with the organisers, the sponsors will be helping mother Malawi rise on a global stage. There are also economic benefits that would be accrued.”

Ndanga said, among others, platinum sponsors will enjoy attractive advertising packages not only at the venue of the event, but also in the two leading media houses beyond the Miss Malawi national final.

She added that there are also Gold and Silver categories of sponsors.

The event is being held under the theme Making A Difference Through Beauty and the young ladies will bring into spotlight problems of the population boom.

In 2014, Malawi’s population hit 15.8 million and is projected to hit 29.6 million by 2033.
