“We are happy with the preliminary auditions so far. There is a lot of potential and we plan to have the regional finals towards the end of the year and early next year while the finals will take place in April next year,” he said.

During Saturday’s auditions, girls aged between 20 and 25, mainly college students, tried their luck and were tested for their intelligence, understanding of the Miss Malawi theme, cat-walking skills and confidence, among others.

Chief judge during the auditions, Florence Banda, said she was happy with the quality of girls who turned up.

“At this point, we are concentrating on the potential of the girls. The girls are okay. They understand the Miss Malawi concept and we are positive that we will have another successful Miss Malawi contest next year,” said Banda.

She said that in the Southern Region, the regional finals will take place on November 25, in the Central Region on January 27 2018 and in the North, the regional finals will take place on December 23 while the grand finale will be held in April 2018.
