More tributes pour in for Chitsulo

Tributes continued to pour in yesterday for deceased veteran journalist Edward Chitsulo who until his death on Sunday morning was Nation Publications Limited (NPL) managing editor.chitsulo5

Chitsulo, who will be laid to rest at his Ntepele Village, Traditional Authority (T/A) Likoswe around Nguludi Turn-Off in Chiradzulu today, died after a short illness at Blantyre Adventist Hospital. He was 56.

chitsulo2Some of the tributes came from Panos Institute Southern Africa (PSAf), Southern African Editors’ Forum (Saef), Malawi Editors Forum (Maef) and Bwaila Media Club (BMC).

PSAf, where Chitsulo served as its chairperson from 2009 to 2012, described his death as a loss not only to NPL and his family, but the entire Southern Africa media fraternity.

Said PSAf executive director Lilian Kiefer in a statement: “Mr. Chitsulo had unwavering commitment to use the media as a tool for amplifying voices of the poor and marginalised to drive development.”

chitsulo6On its part, Maef described Chitsulo’s death as a loss of invaluable wealth of experience in a  statement jointly signed by its chairperson Edyth Kambalambe and secretary Gracian Tukula.

In its statement co-signed by chairperson Peter Makawa and secretary Augustine Mulomole, BMC said Chitsulo was a fine writer who was an inspiration to young and upcoming writers.

The Southern African Editors’ Forum (Saef) has also expressed sadness on the death of Chitsulo whom it described as “Malawi’s veteran journalist and a prominent media lecturer and academic in the southern African region.”
