Movesa in vehicle dealership with Indian firm

Motor Vehicle Spares and Accessories (Movesa) Malawi has entered into a dealership with an Indian company Eicher, a manufacturer of trucks and buses.

Already, Eicher has put on the market seven model trucks, which are being sold in Malawi’s capital, Lilongwe.

Speaking in an interview last week in Lilongwe, Movesa managing director Mohsin Salim said Eicher commercial vehicles are well suited for Malawi roads because they are tough and resilient.

He said the dealership will help create over 50 jobs and Malawians as well as corporates will be the biggest beneficiaries.

“The Eicher vehicles have Volvo engines and are available on the market. Volvo is one of the world’s renowned brands which has a proven track record.

“These cars are found all over Africa, and in Tanzania alone, there are over 3 000 trucks,” said Salim.

He said the cars are fuel efficient and guarantee five percent more mileage per each litre of fuel.

A statement from Eicher says it has overseas vehicle population in excess of 39 000 and has local bus building factories in Egypt, Kenya, Nepal and Bangladesh.

“We are currently coming up with the next generation of vehicles, which will support our global expansion campaign,” reads the statement in part.

The statement says the Volvo Group does business under several brands and each brand is focussed on different industry and market segment. n
