Moyale protest Kuda’s Silver deal

Moyale Barracks have expressed shock at claims by Silver Strikers that striker Kuda Muyawa has signed for the Bankers, saying he is still contracted to them.

The Mzuzu-based Malawi Defence Force (MDF) side’s general secretary Captain Isaac Banda was reacting to his Silver counterpart Thabo Chakaka Nyirenda’s claims on Zodiak Broadcasting Station (ZBS) that they have signed the want-away forward.

At the centre of controversy: Muyawa

Said Nyirenda: “What we know is that when you are employed as a soldier you have the right to resign and if you are a player and you do not have a contract [with a club] you are treated as a free agent.

“What we have heard is that he [Muyawa] has resigned as a soldier and he didn’t have a contract with Moyale. So he is a free agent and can join any other team.”

But in an interview with The Nation yesterday, Banda dismissed claims that Muyawa resigned as a soldier.

“There is no letter to that effect. If it was submitted to the administration department, I am sure we could have been informed,” he said.

Banda said they are surprised that Silver did not seek any clarification from Moyale before agreeing a deal with the player.

“We have heard that he has signed a three-year deal. Maybe Silver have gotten consent from our headquarters to sign Kuda who we pretty know that is still in the army,” he said.

Muyawa could not be reached for comment, but he claimed on his Facebook Page that he had been fired as a soldier by the MDF.

Ndipo mwachita bwino mwandichotsa ntchito because ndakana kumenya timu yanu, m’malemeletsana nokhanokha ine nde ndikhale wotchuka dzina chabe koma ndilibe kali konse. [it’s good that you have fired me because I have refused to play for your team. You enrich yourselves while I am suffering],” he wrote.

According to MDF rules, a player, who is serving as soldier, can only be cleared by the military authorities if he wants to join a civilian side. n
