Mozambican mayor calls on Malawians to invest in Quelimane

Quelimane Municipality of Mozambique’s (QMM) mayor Manuel de Araújo has asked Malawians who have the business muscle to invest in the country’s municipality, saying it has a lot of business opportunities.

Araújo was speaking at a joint press briefing in Blantyre yesterday aimed at strengthening business relationship between Blantyre City Council (BCC) and QMM.

Ndipo: It will benefit Malawians

He said the municipality has some big projects such as the resuscitation of Quelimane Port and the rehabilitation of railway line from the municipality to Tete Moatize which will need external investors.

“We want to make these projects beneficial to Blantyre and Malawi as a whole. We want this relationship to grow and make Mozambique a conducive business environment for Malawians and Mozambicans to do their business in Malawi freely,” said Araújo.

BCC Mayor Wild Ndipo welcomed the call, saying the relationship will benefit Malawian businesspeople.

“This is a welcome development and we will have a meeting with business owners  in Blantyre to see how they can go about it,” he said.

The Quelimane mayor, is in the country with his councillors and 11 business people, and the BCC has lined up different activities to strengthen their relationship which started in 2006.

Early last year, BCC deputy mayor Joseph Makwinja visited their counterparts in Mozambique before Ndipo and Super League Champions Mighty Be Forward Wanderers visited the Quelimane on August 1 where they discussed how they can build their relationship. n
