Mozambican side CD Matchedje left Malawi on Saturday after the postponement of the international friendly matches against Blantyre United and Mighty Wanderers following the death of President Bingu wa Mutharika.

Matchedje, who travelled by road, were supposed to take on United on Saturday. They were scheduled to facing the Nomads on Sunday.

The Mozambican club’s leader of delegation, Major Matlombe, said they understood the circumstances that led to the cancellation of the games and would make fresh arrangements later.

“There was little that our hosts could do.

“We, too, were affected by the death of President Mutharika since we are brothers. We will be in contact with [Blantyre] United on the possibilities of coming again,” Matlombe said.

Blantyre United chairperson Lawson Nakoma appreciated the Mozambican side’s understanding.

“Of course, they spent money, but they were very understanding and appeared concerned with the situation. We have agreed to make fresh arrangements to enable them come again,” said Nakoma.

Matchedje were relegated from the Mozambican top Mocambola League last season and were in the country for pre-season games.
