Mzuzu-based boxer Felix Mwamaso will on Sunday fight Alick Mwenda of Kamuzu Barracks in an eight-round non title bout at Obrigado Leisure Park in Mzuzu. This will be Mwamaso’s first bout since Malawi Professional Boxing Control Board (MPBCB) banned him three months ago for fighting Malashali Shola in March in Tanzania without clearance from the board.

The bantamweight fight is sponsored by Baghdad Mwamlima Boxing Promotion. “People have missed Mwamaso. This is why we have decided to organise this bout to welcome him. It will be a good bout and the winner will get K120 000 while the loser K100 000,” said boxing promoter Baghdad Mwamlima. This will be the 15th professional fight for Mwamaso. He has won 12 and lost two to Chimwemwe Chiotcha and Showa of Tanzania. Mwamaso told The Nation that he is ready for the comeback bout on Sunday. “I am still a good boxer despite the three months’ ban. I will push Mwenda out of the ring before round six,” said Mwamaso. He said Mwenda is a young boxer who cannot match him. But Mwenda—who claims to have won 15 of his 20 professional bouts—played down Mwamaso’s outburst, saying his opponent is far from spoiling his winning strategy. “Mwamaso is very young. I cannot afford to spoil my reputation as the best boxer in Malawi because of Mwamaso. I know he has the right to speak, but I will silence him for good,” said Mwenda.
