Former Malawi national team assistant coach Nsazurwimo Ramadhan has disclosed that he has not pocketed his gratuity—believed to be around K3 million—following the expiry of his contract in July.

However, government has suggested that he has been paid.

Government hired Ramadhan and former Flames coach Ernest Mtawali in August last year but on Football Association of Malawi (FAM) recommendation, opted against renewing their one year contracts.

It followed the national team’s poor performance that saw it eliminated from the 2018 World Cup and botched 2017 Africa Cup of Nations finals bid.

According to information from the Minister of Labour, Youth, Sports and Manpower Development, the two coaches were entitled to 15 percent of their annual earnings as their gratuity.

Our calculations based on a salary of Grade C, on which they were placed, show that in 12 months, each earned around K20 million entitled to a gratuity of K3 million each.

In an interview on Monday, Ramadhan confirmed he has not pocketed the money.

“I have not been paid and I have not received any communication as to when I will be paid the money,” Ramadhan said.

“I am not worried about the situation because I am sure government is working on my pay.”

Sports director in the Minister of Labour, Youth, Sports and Manpower Development, Jameson Ndalama said the information he has gathered is that the two former coaches received their gratuity.

“Usually the ministry processes such payments by liaising with Treasury but Mr Mtawali said he will be do the follow-ups with the Treasury on his own. I have been informed that he has been paid. Mr Ramadhan, from what I have gathered, might also have received his pay,” he said.

But put to him that Ramadhan has confirmed not receiving the money, Ndalama said he will follow up the matter.

“I will talk to Mr Ramadhan to find out. I think from there we will see what to do,” he said. n
