Malawi’s sole netball export Mwawi Kumwenda has said she wants to make an instant break into the starting line-up of her new Australian club Melbourne Vixens.

Speaking just before departure for Melbourne yesterday, the tall shooter said she foresees a tougher challenge at the star-studded Vixens who boast five Australian national team players.

“This is a much bigger challenge because I am joining a team that plays in the National Netball League and is ranked among the top three in Australia unlike my previous team Peninsula Waves which plays in the lower league.

“So, I will have to sweat hard to make it into the team,” she said.

According to Vixens’ website, they are “thrilled to welcome the superstar shooter back to Victoria where she will play an integral role in Vixens’ 2017 National League campaign”.

Mwawi has joined Vixens after a three-year stint at Mainland Tactix in New Zealand where she played in the ANZ Championship.

She had a stellar 2016 season in which she was named the club’s most valuable player (MVP).

The highly decorated shooter was named the best player at the 2015 World Netball Championship and recently inspired the Malawi Queens to win bronze at the 2016 Fast5 World Netball series where she was the top scorer.
