Barely a month after joining her new team, Melbourne Vixens, Mwawi Kumwenda is one of the high profile stars that have featured on the Suncorp Super Netball League videos commercial for the 2017 season.

The Australia’s new netball league, Suncorp Super Netball, commences on February 18.

As the hype builds, Netball Australia has released a series of short videos profiling some of the league’s most colourful characters and the former Escom Sisters player is one of the prominent stars featured.

The 20-second video celebrates the player’s on-court persona and strengths, in an edgy style that captures Kumwenda confidence.

Kumwenda: I thank God for everything

According to Melboune Vixens management via the club’s website, Melbournevixens.com, the adverts are the first in a series of a new creative campaign, masterminded by Blood UTD, a Melbourne based bespoke sport agency.

The videos were done by Founder of Blood UTD, David Smith who was engaged by Netball Australia.

In the video Kumwenda who appears in a blue Vixens uniform, is captured holding the ball and reading the following lines: “You can shut the door, pull the door bridge, and build the highest wall. But when I want in I will take that shot. When I take one, defence is nothing.”

In an interview as usual Kumwenda, attributed her soaring success to God.

“To be appearing in such a high profile advert is not easy. I thank God for everything that is happening in my life. I am looking forward to helping my team win honours,” she said.

Netball Australia’s acting chief executive Marne Fechner said: “We’re just so excited about this campaign. As soon as we met David, we knew he was the right person to take netball to the next level.

“Our game is changing. Suncorp Super Netball marks a new era in Australian netball and we wanted to do something completely different and surprising. It’s about highlighting the fierceness and breaking the stereotypes people may have about our game,” she said.

Eight clubs will contest the inaugural Suncorp Super Netball season, which starts on February 18.

Kumwenda’s first taste of competitive action will be against the Magpies at Hisense Arena on the opening day. n
