Mzimba man drowns in Luwawa Dam

A 22-year-old man from Traditional Authority Mzikubola in Mzimba on Tuesday drowned in Luwawa Dam in the district as he tried to catch fish.

Mzimba Police spokesperson Gift Nyirongo on Thursday identified the deceased as Daniel Zgambo.

He said Zgambo wanted to jump into the water but was stopped by some of his friends, claiming he was too drunk to swim.

“In trying to prove to them [the friends] that he was fine, he jumped into the dam, but unfortunately he failed to swim and drowned,” said Nyirongo.

He said Zgambo’s body was found floating the following day.
