The Mzimba First Grade Magistrate’s Court on Friday sentenced  Higi Chirwa (35)  to eight years imprisonment with hard labour for robbing a TNM sales agent of airtime and K700 000.

Speaking in an interview on Monday, Mzimba Police spokesperson Gift Nyirongo said the incident happened on February 21 this year.

Nyirongo said Manyanani Chirwa, from Meria Investment, was on a motorcycle routine business tour to distribute TNM airtime from Bulala in the area of Traditional Authority (T/A) Chindi when he was robbed.

“Before Lunjika Hills, he saw two men in front of him. One of them threw a panga at him and he lost balance and fell down.

“One of them grabbed a bag which contained airtime and money as the other forced him down,” said Nyirongo.

He said a shopkeeper at Eswazini Trading Centre, where the robbers had temporarily stopped after the robbery, identified Chirwa which led to his arrest.
