The Africa Liaison for the City of Dallas, Regina Hill Onyeibe, has said Mzuzu coffee and Kwithu Kitchen tomato products are on high demand in the USA.

The US city’s contact person on trade and bilateral relations backed the calls for value addition to products when she visited Mzuzu City Council at the weekend.

During the visit, she met council officials and business captains, promising to exploit every opportunity for Malawians to be exporting to the USA.

Arnold Shaba, nominated councillor representing the business community in Mzuzu, said the city has numerous business opportunities, including tourism, which may benefit from the emerging ties with Dallas.

Mzuzu City chief executive officer Macloud Kadam’manja described the partnership with the US city as “our opportunity to restart efforts to twin with other cities”.

“The absence of councillors for about nine years killed all our efforts to twin with other cities. At the moment we do not have any twin city,” he said. n
