Mzuzu runs short of mushroom

Shortage of mushrooms has pushed up the demand for the delicacy in Mzuzu City.

 Spot checks in shops that sell fresh farm produce revealed that mushrooms are selling like hot cakes, with shelves becoming empty almost daily.

Fresh Mark manager Peter Mtonga said the shop is struggling to meet the demand of its customers.

Shoprite has two suppliers who grapple to provide the required 20 kilogrammes a week.

“We have the market, but supply is low because there are very few capable producers,” said Mtonga.
