Mzuzu will tomorrow [Saturday] host a poetry feast dubbed Kwenengwe la Chikhakhali with the aim of reviving poetry in the Northern Region. The fest pools together poets and entertainers Robert Chiwamba, Mr Jokes, Aunt Gate, Mr Malawi, Atcheya, Chigo Chokani-Gondwe and Padiwa Kasho, among others.

One of the organisers Elijah Magona said Mzuzu is lagging behind in terms of poetry and performances.

“The major challenge in Mzuzu is that we do not have poetry performances for our artists to be exposed. By bringing these acts, the city’s talent will come to the fore for recognition,” said Magona, who is also a poet himself.

He said the show also wants to bring entertainment to the people of Mzuzu who are in sorrow following a disaster that killed six people and displaced 8 000 individuals.

“We want people to forget the disaster by making them laugh through poetry and jokes. That is why the show has been dubbed Kwenengwe la Chikhakhali which means whether they like it or not, if they are found at the venue, they will be entertained and laugh,” he said.

Magona encouraged the corporate world to sponsor poetry activities in Mzuzu if the city is to become the hub of poetry.

Chiwamba, who last performed in Mzuzu in 2014, said he is ready for the show and encouraged his fans to attend the show in large numbers.  n
