Has dumped DPP, yet to be accomodated in PP: Namakhwa

Thyolo Central Member of Parliament Kingsley Namakhwa has dumped the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP).

He has since pledged his support to President Joyce Banda and the People’s Party (PP).

The MP confirmed the switch on Monday, saying development activities suffered in his area because he was in the opposition.

“I want to serve my constituents better. Chiefs were in a dilemma when I was in opposition,” said Namakhwa.

But he could not say if the ruling party has accommodated him. “We are discussing at party level, but I will work with them inside and outside Parliament,” he said.

DPP spokesperson Nicholas Dausi said Namakhwa has just exercised his political right in a democracy.

DPP has faced massive defections in the recent past.

Last week, Lilongwe South MP Agnes Penemulungu, also elected on DPP ticket announced, she was an independent MP.

  1. Namakhwa, I know you personally so dont take this the wrong way. Your mentallity is retrogressive and undesirable in Malawi. Why should development suffer in your region because you are in the opposition? Afterall, there are many MPs in opposition why should MPs not change the status quo so that development goes first to those areas of critical need or greatest potential in order to sperahead the developments in this country? I tell you what, my greatest day will be when the majority of the members of parliament both in government and opposition will be booted out of parliament. We need a forward thinking parliament, one that serves the needs of the communities and not themselves like you Mr. Namakhwa here. I dont think that most of you MPs in our parliament now deserve the term honourable for your code of conduct leaves a lot to be desired
