Napas for increased ‘agricultural science’ reporting

New Alliance Policy Acceleration Support (Napas) Malawi has said enhanced reporting on innovation, technology and science in agriculture can enhance Malawi’s economy.

Speaking recently in Lilongwe, during a media workshop under the theme ‘Communicating Science for Agricultural Impact’, Napas senior programme manager and policy analyst Arthur Mabiso, said agricultural transformation will happen faster if media partners with the science community to communicate agricultural science research.

Mabiso: We have noted
a gap on research

“Despite that, there is all kind of research coming up. We have noted a gap on research, science and technology publicity and we want the two institutions to interact for the benefit of the farmer,” Mabiso said.

Lecturer in pharmacology and biochemistry in the biomedical sciences department at Lilongwe University of Agriculture and Natural Resources (Luanar), Chiku Mtegha, said he is working on identifying a cheap, effective and safe way to deworm goats.

He said clinical trials will start in January, with results expected in July, which will help to cut on import costs for liquidified albendazol.
