Masters Security Southern Region Football Association (SRFA) Premier League side Nchalo United have hired former Nyasa Big Bullets assistant coach Mabvuto ‘Tigana’ Lungu.

The club’s chairperson Peter Chiipanthenga confirmed sealing the deal with the Bullets legend at the weekend, saying the move is part of the drive to return to the Super League next season after about five years in the second-tier league.

Chiipanthenga: He will put us in a strong position

“He has signed a one-year deal and our expectations are that he will guide the team to win the league championship and, consequently, earn promotion into the Super League.

“The contract will be renegotiated upon qualification into the Super League because we have the sponsorship and good players and we believe that bringing in Mr. Lungu will put us in a strong position to challenge for promotion this coming season,” he said.

Chaiipanthenga said having finished fourth and five points behind the eventual champions Blantyre United last season, they feel they have what it takes to fight for honours this season.

“But we don’t want to put him under pressure,” he said.

Lungu could not be reached for his comment yesterday.

He was fired by the People’s Team alongside team manager Rahim Ishmael and goalkeeper trainer Swadick Sanudi towards the end of last season on disciplinary grounds. n
