Minister of Local Government and Rural Development Kondwani Nankhumwa on Saturday opened the new Nkhotakota Bus Depot with a government commitment to invest in more infrastructure projects to improve services councils offer to residents.

Through the Local Development Fund (LDF), government spent K282 million on the project, which has given the district a new face.

The bus depot project was financed through the Urban Window of the LDF with financial assistance from German Development Group (KfW).

In his remarks, Nankhumwa said the opening of the depot demonstrated government’s commitment to ensuring that motorists and travellers have access to a convenient and modern bus depot.

“People of Nkhotakota have for a long time been denied the use of a convenient and modern bus depot. Currently, government is ensuring that all districts that did not have such facilities are provided with one, on top of the many projects we are implementing,” he said.

German Ambassador Juergen Borsch said he was particularly impressed with the level of commitment LDF demonstrated in the implementation of the project.

He said the facilities that are at Nkhotakota Bus Depot are of international standard, likening the terminal to some from his home country. n
