Malawi international Robert Ng’ambi has said he will wait for the 2017/18 Premier Soccer League (PSL) season to conclude before making a decision on his future at relegated Platinum Stars.

After playing in the PSL for over 10 years, Malawi’s most experienced and influential midfielder is heading for the National First Division (NFD) following his team’s relegation on Wednesday.

Ng’ambi: It’s part of the game

Ng’ambi has been loyal at Platinum Stars. Despite getting offers from big club such as SuperSport, Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates, he never thought of dumping Platinum Stars.

Now that his club has been relegated, there have been questions on whether he will sink with the ship.

But Ng’ambi in an interview yesterday was cool and composed on his team’s relegation.

“It’s part of the game,” he said.

When asked about his next move Ng’ambi said: “Let’s wait for the league to finish first.”

Teammate and compatriot midfielder Gerald Phiri Jnr, who was loaned to Platinum from Bidvest, is also set play in the lower league if his club decides to let him stay at Dikwena.

Commenting on the two players’ future, Flames coach Ronny van Geneugden (RVG) said it would depend on Platinum’s ambitions.

He said: “If they want to return to the PSL within a year, may be they will let Robert stay so that he can help them regain promotion to the topflight league. But if they are not in a hurry they might let him join other PSL clubs as you know Robert is a great player who clubs will be looking forward to get. As for Phiri Jnr, it also depends on what his parent club [Bidvest Wits] want. They might recall him or let him stay there.”

Platinum’s relegation means the number of Malawian players in the PSL has been cut to five.

Other players in PSL are Frank Gabadinho Mhango, Robin Ngalande, Limbikani Mzava, Muhammad Sulumba and Atusaye Nyondo. n
