Lilongwe-based non-governmental organisation (NGO), My Neighbour’s Keeper (Mynek) on Saturday donated assorted items to the elderly and orphans at Traditional Authority (T/A) Chitukula headquarters in the district.

The elderly received sugar, laundry soap, and clothes while the orphans received stationery and clothes.

Mynek chairperson Christopher Chiomba said the donation was in line with the biblical principles of giving and sharing.

“Our area of focus is on helping the elderly, orphans and the less privileged in society. Last week, we were in Tsale Village, T/A Ntema and this time around we are here for the same cause,” said Chiomba.

He said the donated items were sourced through donations from various well-wishers to the organisation.

“It is not like we are very rich but we mobilise resources from well-wishers who know our charity works. All the items that we have shared in the two villages were as a result of donations for various people and organisations,” said Chiomba.

One of the beneficiaries, Nawuleni Chinkhota, thanked Mynek for the donations.

“We are far away from the city and for you to come here and give us these things it is like a dream. May God repay you more,” she said.

Group village head Muyeso also thanked Mynek for the assistance.

“As you can see from the smiles, these people are grateful. You have touched their lives. It is not only about the donation but the fact that the world out there remembers them. You have shown that you care and please continue,” she said.n
