The Zomba District Referees Committee (ZDRC) on Saturday elected Fifa-referee Dennis Ngulube as its chairperson.

Ngulube was elected during the committee’s annual general meeting (AGM) held at Mponda Primary Schools’ Teachers Development Centre (TDC) in Zomba.

He amassed 24 votes against 10 for Dishon Phiri and five for Andrew Kalombola. In his acceptance speech, Ngulube said he felt humbled with the trust shown in him and vowed to improve the quality of refereeing in the district.

“My main task will be to fight for the upgrading of some referees in the district by arranging courses in liaison with the Southern Region Referees Committee,” he said.

The 24-year-old cited teamwork as of utmost importance for quality delivery of service by his committee, despite facing challenges especially in sports equipment.

The following is the full set-up of the committee: Ngulube (chairperson), Dab Mbale (vice-chairperson), Benedicto Chongwa (general secretary), Ben Manyamba (vice-general secretary), Michael Likaka (treasurer, unopposed) and Allan Kumwenda (vice-treasurer).

Committee members are Austin Banda, Adson Mphepo, Mustaf Amidu and George Manjomo.

The committee is expected to run the show for four years.
