Voter_registration_aug22The National Initiative for Civic Education (Nice) Trust has commended political parties in Chitipa District for their active participation in the registration exercise, which it says helped to prevent certain serious elements.

Nice regional civic education manager (North) Enock Chinkhuntha said this on Friday when he assessed the registration exercise in Chitipa District, which run from October 15 to October 30 2013.

He saluted political parties for deploying competent monitors to registration centres who he said discharged their role in a responsible, professional and patriotic manner.

Said Chinkhuntha, “Let me be very open here. To a larger degree, the registration exercise has been a success and credible.”

He observed with pleasure that resident party monitors, whose presence was felt in all registration centres, played a tremendous role in screening prospective registrants to ensure that foreign nationals did not register illegally.

Zambian nationals, who were arrested in centres situated in the border with Chitipa, were identified by the alert party monitors.

Nice is one of the civil society organisations (CSOs) accredited by the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) to carry out voter and civic education and to monitor registration exercise in the run-up to May 20 2014 Tripartite Elections.
