Be Forward Wanderers have swallowed their pride and congratulated their arch-rivals Nyasa Big Bullets for winning the 2017 edition of the Carlsberg Cup.
Bullets won the cup after beating the Nomads 5-3 on post-match penalties at Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe on Saturday after playing out a two-all draw in regulation time.
Said the Nomads general secretary (GS) Mike Butao yesterday: “Congratulations to [chairperson] Noel Lipipa, GS Albert Chigoga and the entire Bullets family for the win.”
He said: “Let us not allow the behaviours of some misguided individuals or the subsequent course of justice to spoil the relationship between the two teams.”
In a direct reference to the incident surrounding the smashing of the Nomads’ team bus by alleged Bullets fans after the match.
Bullets wrestled the cup from Wanderers who have kept it for two consecutive years having also wrestled it from Bullets in 2015.
Bullets chairperson Noel Lipipa said the Nomads have displayed true sportsmanship by congratulating them for the victory.
“In modern football, that should be the spirit and we appreciate,” he said. n
