NRFA boss to go unopposed

Football Association of Malawi (FAM) has released a list of candidates vying for the Northern Region Football Association (NRFA) positions, but incumbent chairperson Lameck Khonje has no challenger.

This means the Mzuzu University lecturer is set to go unopposed when the association goes to the polls on November 20 in Mzuzu.

Khonje said the absence of a challenger shows that the affiliates were satisfied with his performance during his term.

Vice-chairperson Felix Mbonekera Msiska is also set retain the seat unopposed.

But four candidates—Phillimon Maseko, Kaunga Nyirenda, Masiya Nyasulu and Dingane Nhlane—will contest for the general secretary position.

Desire Kibombe, Zuza Nyondo, Obua Mwamusamale and Tobias Mwale are vying for the vice-general secretary post.

Incumbent treasurer Chauka Mwasinga and fixtures secretary Orlens Msonda will both retain their seats unopposed.

But seven candidates—Tobias Mwale, Mwamusamale, Patel Kaunda, Joshua Chinguwo, Andrew Phiri, Fumbani Gondwe and Davie Muyombe—are vying for the five posts of executive committee members.

Legal adviser position has two candidates in Victor Gondwe and John Tenson.

FAM outgoing generals secretary Suzgo Nyirenda said the executive would be in office for a four-year term. n
