If I were

Peter Mutharika

President of the Republic of Malawi, I would not lose the plot and say the hunger situation in the country has not been caused by DPP (Democratic Progressive Party) or Peter Mutharika, but God.

If I were the President, I would realise that in other words, my sentiments expressed during the opening of the Lilongwe Floors last Wednesday insinuated that it is God who should be blamed for the current hunger, a statement which was very unfortunate coming from a head of State and someone who claims to fear the Lord.

I would realise that while there might be some overzealous individuals politicising the hunger situation, some of them in my own party. But to suggest that hunger is caused by God is blasphemous and it paints a picture of someone who has terribly lost his way (kutha mapulani).

If only I were APM, I would appreciate that as a leader, I am supposed to provide solutions in such circumstances other than push the blame to God.

I would realise that all this is happening due to poor planning on the part of government to come up with solutions to the challenges.

Oh yes, that is if only I were APM, but I can never toy around with the idea of blaming God.
