If I were

President of the Republic of Malawi, I would realise that vendors are not solely to blame for the scarcity of maize in Admarc depots.

If I were APM, I would realise that the vendors are just taking advantage of the situation because of government’s failure to supply adequate maize because if the supply were normal, the vendors would have no market.

I would, therefore, appreciate that what I am doing is just scratching the surface other than finding a solution to address the real problem.

Oh yes, if I were His Excellency, I would appreciate the harsh reality that I am trying to find a scapegoat by pushing the blame on vendors and institutions instead of addressing the real problem.

If I were APM, I would recall that I made a bold declaration not long ago that no one will die of hunger in this country, but at the pace we are going, I might be forced to swallow my word.

If only I were abwana, perhaps I would also consider reflecting on what social commentator Michael Usi aka Manganya suggested that I appear not to be in full control of the sinking ship.

Oh yes, that is if only I were big man wamkulu that is APM. Unfortunately, it is a mere wish for I can never be him.
