Police officer dies in road accident

A police officer based at Mtakataka police Training School in Dedza died in a road accident after being hit by a vehicle at Liwimbe village near Mtakataka trading centre.

 

Dedza police station spokesperson Edward Kabango said the deceased, Inspector Henry Chazemba was cycling towards the Salima direction when he was hit by a motor vehicle registration number BP 4666 a Toyota Corolla Saloon coming from the opposite direction.

 

The vehicle ended up in the river.

Explained Kabango: “The vehicle was being driven by Henry Maluwa, 43 of Hawu village T/A Kanduku in Mwanza. Due to excessive speed, he lost control of the vehicle and hit the deceased who died on the spot due to head injuries. The vehicle swerved off the road and plunged into Nakaingwa River. The driver escaped with serious injuries while the three passengers escaped with minor injuries.”

 

Kabango further said the dead body and the injured were taken to Mua Mission hospital in the district.

 

Inspector Henry Chazemba 43, hailed from Penemulungu village in the area of Traditional Authority Mulolo in Nsanje.

Meanwhile, police are reminding drivers to use recommended speed limits to avoid accidents.
