PostNL, WFP happy with school projects in Nsanje

The World Food Programme (WFP) and PostNL have expressed satisfaction with progress of primary school and early childhood development programmes in Nsanje.

This came after the two organisations toured the current PostNL projects that support WFP School Feeding Programmes in the district.

PostNL programme manager in the Netherlands, Marielle van Spronsen, was in the mood after witnessing such projects.

Said Mirrielle. “Today, we have come to Malawi to see progress of the programme. I am happy with how the project  is being done here. I am also happy because there is also great input from the community.

“I have seen that Malawians are friendly and they have positive attitude towards a development. You really have great personality, it’s our pressure to have you.”

She said their plan is to construct 86 new centres in the district to make it to 99.

“Now 35 centres are in operational. This will be done in partnership between PostNL and WFP. So far, we have 59 structures in 31 primary schools,” said Marielle.

The school feeding programme is in 13 districts in Malawi. Nsanje now has 2 768 children under early childhood development.

Nsanje district education manager Enock Ali hailed the two organisations gesture.

“Nsanje is now improving, you can see children under three years going to school which has not being the case here,” said Ali.

Every year, PostNL raises funds to support the WFP School feeding progamme in Malawi. The partnership of the two started in 2002.

Since then, PostNL has raised over $7 million. Nsanje has 104 primary schools and 13 early childhood development centres.
