According to Kabango, Magetsi who was driving a Toyota Sienta registration number BS 7970 tried to overtake a minibus and in the process ended up in a head-on collision with vehicle registration number CK 8560 (MG418AD) Toyota Prado driven by presidential advisor on non-governmental organisations (NGOs) Mavuto Bamusi, 40 from Msambatiyao village in the area of T/A Nthiramanja in Mulanje.

He said there were five passengers in the Toyota Sienta and the two died on spot after sustaining severe head injuries while one passenger from the same vehicle sustained a fracture on his right shoulder.

“The accident happened at around six o’clock in the morning. All three passengers and a driver in the Toyota Prado survived the accident with minor injuries,” he added.

The Toyota Sienta had its windscreen shattered and front part extensively damaged while the Prado had its front part and side windows damaged.

This accident happens barely four days after 16 people died in two separate accidents on the outskirts of Blantyre City on Saturday.

In his condolence message after the Saturday accident, President Peter Mutharika assured the bereaved and affected families that government will do everything within its means to support them.

Meanwhile, police have advised drivers to observe speed limits to avoid accidents.
