If I were

Priscilla Mateyu

Public affairs officer of Blantyre Water Board (BWB), I would realise that it is grossly unfair to our customers to keep mum on water shortages rocking parts of the commercial city.

If only I were madam Mateyu, I would appreciate that water is life and that it is unfair for residents of some parts of the city to either receive no drop of water or experience intermittent supply without any explanation what-so-ever from the board.

Oh yes, my good lady, when our customers—some of them have babies—spend three weeks without water and yet BWB treats it as business as usual, is unfortunate and irresponsible on the part of my institution.

As someone responsible for public affairs, I would make an effort to inform the bosses on the urgent need to keep the customers updated in such situations.

Yes, I would appreciate that being a public utility body, BWB is obliged to inform and explain to its customers the cause of the poor water supply.

Oh yes, that is if only I were the public affairs officer at BWB, unfortunately I remain a poor scribe that is Garry Chirwa.
