Malawi Red Cross Society (MRCS) says many civil protection committee (CPC) members who provide safety coordination activities are not aware of critical life-saving activities.

MRCS director of programmes and development Hastings Kandaya said this on Tuesday in Frank Village, Traditional Authority (T/A) Maseya in Chikwawa during a training they facilitated on how CPC’s can respond to floods.red cross

“In these trainings we are looking at developing capacities of these communities in terms of their preparedness and planning. We are also looking at enhancing their skills in terms of response when it comes to floods,” Kandaya said.

T/A Maseya commended MRCS for the training, saying it has equipped them with knowledge on how to rescue flood victims.

MRCS said the training falls under a three-month programme that started in April and will end in June. It is being carried out in Nsanje, Chikwawa, Phalombe, Zomba, Mangochi and Karonga with funding from Department for International Development (DfID) through United Nations Development Programme (UNDP.
