The evening concert, christened Jazz Independence Jubilee, features two different generations of music through Rudo Chakwera and Maria Chidzanja Nkhoma at Madsoc Theatre in Lilongwe tomorrow night.

“The night is all about two women from two different generations of music. Maria has an idea of how it was back then by presenting songs reflecting on that era. I will later come in with contemporary and modern set style music. We will later performing a set together just to show that even though these are two different generations, we can move together,” said Chakwera in an interview.

She said: “We have invited dignitaries, diplomats and other respectable guests to this event to celebrate and honour Malawian women post 50 years of independence. This is a big celebration for Malawian women.”

Marlyn Chakwera is set to perform one song in memory of the late Julia Kaphamtengo, who was an opera singer and teacher at Music Crossroads.
