Salima business community pledges to support police

Salima business community has assured police that it will join hands with all stakeholders in the district in curbing crime and ensuring that there is peace and order.

The move follows the brutal murder of a fuel attendant at a filling station in the district two weeks ago.

Speaking to members of the business community on Friday, the group’s chairperson Sakina Chingomanje said they want to help the law enforcers to work effectively in ensuring security in the district.

“In helping the police, we have agreed that we will be fuelling a police vehicle with 20 litres per day. We have also offered them our vehicles for patrols when the need arises. In addition, we are also establishing neighbourhood watch initiatives within our communities,” she said.

Chingomanje also said police will be provided with equipment such as whistles, reflectors and torches, among others.

In his remarks, Salima Police Station officer-in-charge Edward Chingaipe assured the business community of their commitment.

“As police, we will ensure that those taking part in the neighbourhood watch initiative are trained to work effectively,” he said. n
