Salima chiefs unites to foster development

Chiefs in Salima have said they will work with all development partners in their areas to foster development.

The chiefs made the declaration on Monday during a meeting  National Initiative for Civic Education (Nice) Trust organised on roles of traditional leaders on development.

The declaration comes on the heels of reports that there is poor coordination between the chiefs, ward councilors, area development committee (ADC) members, village development committee (VDC) members and members of Parliament (MPs), a development which they say is retarding development in their areas.

Traditional Authority (T/A) Kambwiri pledged to strive at fostering unity and good coordination among the parallel structures, saying development needs a holistic approach.

T/A Khombedza said they will ensure that everybody within the community who was tasked with a certain responsibility is contributing to the development agenda of the community as well as the country.

Nice regional civic education officer for Central Region, Christopher Naphiyo, encouraged the chiefs to use their influence in fostering coordination among development structures. n
