The league is sponsored by contributions from well-wishers in the community and members of the Central Region Football Association (CRFA).

Football Association of Malawi (FAM) vice-president James Mwenda and CRFA vice -chairperson Simeon Linjeje, hailed the SDFA for starting the league.

“’This is a good development. Other district associations should also emulate what SDFA and the community have done by first helping themselves before approaching companies to assist. This is a milestone and if we can have leagues in all the districts, then we can easily develop the games of football in this country, “said Mwenda.

The FAM veep, who contributed K50 000 and pledged to donate two match balls, said his organisation will line up clinics for coaches, referees and administrators in districts.

He also promised that FAM will help with technical support for the community stadium which is under rehabilitation.

SDFA chairperson Charles Majidi Seleman appealed to the teams to observe discipline during the games in order to attract potential sponsors.

To spice up the event, Mafco Youth drew 3-3 with Likumbo FC in a league encounter. n
