If I were

Saulos Klaus Chilima

Vice-President of the Republic of Malawi, I would come out of my shell to explain allegations that my personal assistant Moses Kuchingale last week impersonated a Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) official while voting was in progress in Mchinji West. Constituency by-elections.

If I were the Veep, when such serious allegations are made against one of my own aides, the picture it portrays is that he was acting on instruction from me knowing that I led the governing Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) campaign team in that area.

I would appreciate if I were the Vice-President that keeping mum on such a serious issue will not help matters but hieghten speculation that he was sent by my office for purposes of rigging.

If I were the big shot that is the veep, the man in charge of the public sector reforms aimed at making democracy work and benefit all Malawians, I would realise that my aides’ scandals in a way affect my public image.

Oh yes, that is if I happened to be Dr  Saulos Klaus Chilima, but unfortunately I am not the Vice-President of the Republic of Malawi.  n
