Hit a mental reset button
Doing a re-set from time time is good for revival and increasing effectiveness. The beginning of a New Year is always a good time to re-set mentally so you have energy to deliver on your goals and commitments. Here are some ‘principles’ to help you stay on the right wavelength when the telltale signs suggest you may be headed for a slump and getting weary.
Don’t let problems be the problem: Problems will always come, but are not meant to stay. Be concerned if the problems are the same you had months ago because that would signal stagnation. Don’t let problems signal ‘stop’. Problems are inevitable so it’s best to anticipate them which will put you in the right frame of mind to solve challenges that come your way. Expecting an easy road is setting yourself up for trouble.
Produce regardless of situation: Develop a structure of working through things that don’t stew in a barren situation. Having a method ensures you move swiftly to discover real issues to address without hesitation.
Don’t limit yourself only to ‘upwards’: Many people work on the premise that progress is always in the form of ‘up’. Be willing to disrupt the way you’ve always done things. Don’t wait for change to find you; continuously innovate, try new ideas and have the courage to advance them. Steer yourself in the right direction, which is forwards not necessarily upwards.
Do what you should do: In every situation, especially one that could pull you in the wrong direction, there are things you must do to stall or prevent worsening a situation. Then there are things you could do to turn things onto the right trajectory. Do both. The path to being mentally agile is not a one track approach. Know your tendencies, when you start feeling drained and your mind starts to play games with you.
Now take action: Where do you need to re-set your approach or thinking?
